Chelsea Boss Maurizio Sarri Should ‘Break The Bank To Re-sign’ Diego Costa

Chelsea Boss Maurizio Sarri Should ‘Break The Bank To Re-sign’ Diego Costa

Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa could be exactly what Maurizio Sarri needs to challenge for the Premier League title, says Peter Crouch.

Peter Crouch has made a bold claim after suggesting that Maurizio Sarri should "break the bank" to sign former striker Diego Costa.

The former Napoli boss had a strong start to the Premier League campaign, but the Stoke City striker believes that the Atlético Madrid star would add the firepower needed to challenge for the Premier League title.

"I have concerns about whether they will mount a proper title challenge next season," he wrote for the Daily Mail.

"Chelsea have scored the fewest goals of the top six sides. A return of 38 from 21 matches isn't enough to win you a title, no matter how good your defence is.

"The one thing you need is someone to score you 30 goals and they do not have a player like Harry Kane, Mo Salah or Sergio Agüero.

"Not so long ago, they did. Diego Costa would absolutely transform Chelsea's fortunes and, if it was down to me, I'd break the bank to re-sign him.

"You can talk about Gonzalo Higuaín or Karim Benzema, but I think Costa would be the one to take Chelsea where they want to be."

Chelsea signed Costa in 2014 from Atlético Madrid and he made 89 appearances for the Blues, in which he scored 52 times for the London club.

Costa, who was ranked in the top 100 footballers of 2018, left Stamford Bridge and re-signed for Los Rojiblancos after his troubling relationship with former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.

Chelsea are fourth in the Premier League and are three points clear of fifth-place Arsenal.

Sarri is set to lose club captain Gary Cahill after the 33-year-old England international is reportedly finalising a move to another Premier League side.

Meanwhile, the 59-year-old Italian will allow another Chelsea star to leave in this window.
