It may come as a surprise...

Luke Shaw has regularly felt the wrath of current boss Jose Mourinho but his former manager Mauricio Pochettino criticising him may come as a surprise.

Shaw played under the Spurs manager at Southampton and thoroughly enjoyed his time with him - so much so that he hopes he can work with Pochettino again at some point in the future.

However, in a new book being brought out by journalist Guillem Balague, titled 'Brave New World: Inside Pochettino's Spurs', he appears to take aim at Shaw's attitude.

The Argentine is quoted as saying:

"I felt his head was not in the right place to make the sacrifices and decisions that are necessary at that age."

A very surprising comment, especially given that Shaw speaks glowingly of Pochettino in the epilogue of the very same book.

As quoted by the Daily Mail, the left-back wrote:

"He used to call me his son, 'That's how good our relationship was. I've had lots of ups and downs, but when I was with Pochettino it was only ever up, up, up.

"He made me feel that I was the best. He'd show me clips of my games and say, 'You could do this better'. Not in a horrible way. Not I could have done better, but I should have done better, because he knows I can be better.

"I think with Southampton he achieved the impossible. We were one of the best footballing teams in the league... I do hope that I can play for him again one day. And I think he really wants me to play under him again."

Shaw has only just returned from injury, building up his fitness with the United reserves before making two substitute appearances in the Carabao Cup this season.

He's still got Ashley Young and Daley Blind ahead of him in the pecking order at United though, and his first-team future at Old Trafford continues to look bleak.
