Mauricio Pochettino deserves a ton of credit for the way he's transformed Spurs during his time as manager at White Hart Lane, with the North London club enjoying their best ever Premier League campaign last season. Confidence has coursed through his team over the past year, but the Argentine's latest comments about youngster Marcus Edwards may be a tad overzealous.

The 17-year-old is being tipped for a big future at White Hart Lane, impressing during pre-season encounters with Juventus and Atletico Madrid. Edwards could make his competitive debut against Gillingham in the EFL Cup tonight and speaking to reporters ahead of the tie, Pochettino was full of praise for the teenager:

"Well, Marcus Edwards, he is still 17 years old. The qualities... it's only looks, his body and the way that he plays, [we] remember a little bit from the beginning of Messi.

"[Edwards] is a very good prospect and potentially he can be a top player but we need to be patient and tell him that he has a lot of talent - enough talent to be a top player, a great player - but now it's how he builds his future. That's very important and it's our responsibility to tell him."

So, no competitive games under his belt yet but already drawing comparisons with possibly the greatest player in the history of the game. No pressure then, Marcus.
