Manuel Pellegrini Hints At Where His Future Lies

Where will he end up?

Manuel Pellegrini could still win the Champions League this season and find himself unemployed in the summer, with the second part a likely reality unless he gets himself a new job soon. He could even beat the man who will replace him. But where will he end up?

The Chilean has had a mixed time at the Etihad, winning the Premier League but failing to come close to defending it, as with his predecessor Roberto Mancini, and failing to recapture it this season whilst also winning two league cup titles. He will be replaced by Pep Guardiola next term no matter what happens in the Champions League semi-final and possibly final.

The tactician has extensive experience having managed Real Madrid, Malaga, Villarreal, River Plate and the Chile national team on top of his time in Manchester. So where next for the 62 year old? He hinted it could be Italy but didn't rule out a move back to La Liga:

"I would like to coach in Serie A. It would be a good experience. I am looking for a new project that would allow me to do my job, and I would not refuse a return to Spain.

"In my life I have never shied away from a challenge.

"When I chose Malaga, I had bigger clubs who were offering me more money, but I decided that I wanted to take that team into the Champions League."

City announced that they were going to replace Pellegrini with Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola on February 1st and at that time the Citizens were second in the table, just three points behind champions Leicester, however they have fallen away and now sit 13 points behind Claudio Ranieri's team.

Part of that failure has been blamed on the club's decision to make the announcement halfway through the season when the team looked balanced on the pitch rather than wait till the end of the season although injuries to Vincent Kompany and Kevin de Bruyne along the way certainly haven't helped.

Everton have been linked with a move for the Chilean should they decide to dispense with the services of Roberto Martinez and the experienced manager could be the perfect man with his experience in the Premier League but it sounds like his future lies away from England.
