Anthony Martial hopes to swap Manchester United for Sevilla in the January transfer window after reaching an "agreement in principle" with the Spanish club, but the Frenchman's high wages remain a big obstacle in completing a deal.

Martial's days with the Red Devils appear to be numbered, and the 26-year-old wants to link up with Julen Lopetegui's side next month in a bid for regular game time, according to Mundo Deportivo.

But any switch to the La Liga club would be on a loan deal, as Sevilla would still want United to pay part of his huge wages that are in the region of £250,000 a week.

This is 'absolutely unaffordable' for the Andalusian side, meaning that Martial may have to take a big wage cut in order to force through the move.

But there could be a sting in the tail, as TuttoMercatoWeb journalist Enzo Bucchioni claims that Juventus may explore the possibility of a move for Martial.

Wherever he ends up, his new club will be hoping to see a rapid upturn in form from the Frenchman that has seen him score just once in 10 appearances across all competitions this season.

He has had a largely underwhelming six years at Old Trafford, and not really come close to justifying the £36million fee which the club paid Monaco for his services in September 2015.

His best season at the club came in the 2019/20 season, where Martial scored 23 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions.

Sadly, he wasn't able to translate that form into the following campaign, finding the net only seven times in 37 appearances.

It will be fascinating to see where the striker ends up after the window opens in eight days' time.
