When you think of the most bizarre transfers in recent football history, Manchester United signing Portuguese player Bebe is right up there.

Back in 2010, despite only signing for Vitória de Guimarães five weeks earlier, Manchester United signed the unknown quantity despite the fact Sir Alex Ferguson had never seen him play.

Bebe even admitted his surprise when Manchester United made a whopping £7.4 million for the winger, revealing that he thought the transfer was a joke:

"I had a contract with a termination clause of €9 million and within two days there was a team that wanted to pay it. And I went to Manchester. I thought they were joking."

Surprise, surprise, Bebe's move to United never worked out as despite that wonderful footballing masterclass delivered against Wolves in a League Cup tie in the 2010/11 season, he only made seven appearances for the club, scoring twice.

The player who was bought based entirely on the recommendation of Fergie's former United assistant Carlos Queiroz was sent on loan three times, once to Turkish side Besiktas and then back to his native Portugal for temporary spells with Rio Ave and Paços de Ferreira.

His nightmare United career officially ended in 2014 when he got a move to Benfica, arguably the biggest club in Portugal, and he would go on to dabble in Spanish football with loan spells at Cordoba and Rayo Vallecano, before signing for Eibar permanently.

However, the latest development is that Eibar no longer want the 26-year old and a return to England could be on the cards.

According to Marca, Wolves are nearing a deal for Bebe, who would apparently cost £1.5 million.

The Championship outfit recently appointed Nuno Espírito as boss, with the former Porto and Valencia manager penning a three-year deal and replacing Paul Lambert at Molineux.

Wolves already have three Portuguese players in their ranks and they could well be about to get another in Bebe.

It's just written in the stars isn't it? Bebe coming back to England to play for the team he scored his first United goal against.

If Bebe does sign, get your money on Wolves promotion. Madness is about to happen.
