Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt has left Manchester United red-faced after snubbing their offer to move to Old Trafford.

According to BBC Sport's David Ornstein, the Red Devils are the only club to have tabled an offer for the 19-year-old Dutch starlet.

But De Ligt, who has also been linked with Juventus and Barcelona, has no interest in making the switch to United.

United suffered from a leaky defence last season as they slumped to a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær would welcome the addition of a highly rated player like De Ligt in his defensive options.

But the centre-back would miss out on Champions League football should he move to United.

Barcelona were widely tipped as the favourites to land De Ligt this summer, but Juventus are ready to challenge them over the sought-after Dutch talent.

The Serie A champions are ready to offer £60m for the player, but Ajax are demanding a fee in the region of £75m.

De Ligt, who was named the best under-20 player in the world in L'Équipe's rankings, has continued to flirt with the idea of playing in Turin and alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Everything is going fast. During the season, in the club and during the various competitions, you don't really have time to think about it," he told Dutch outlet Voetbal International.

"However, sometimes I realise it, as recently when I had dinner with my childhood friends who I used to play with.

"We came to the conclusion that I always wanted to be Cristiano Ronaldo when we played soccer in the garden.

"Especially during the period when he played at Manchester United. Even my first football shirt was his.

"That dinner took place immediately after the two challenges against Juventus, in which I had to face Ronaldo."

Ex-Juventus and England boss Fabio Capello recently claimed that De Ligt's arrival at the Old Lady would effectively end any title challenge from a rival team.

Which club will land De Ligt in the summer?
