Manchester City’s “Salford Silva” Could Make Shock Transfer To Manchester United

Manchester United are reportedly keen on bringing a Manchester City youngster to the club that has been dubbed the "Salford Silva."

James McAtee is being touted as the next success story from the City academy and follow in the footsteps of Phil Foden, Cole Palmer and Liam Delap.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed an impressive start to the season for City's under-23s, scoring 10 goals in 9 Premier League 2 appearances.

He made his first-team debut last month, after coming off the bench in a 6-1 Carabao Cup third round victory Wycombe Wanderers.

His current contract at the Etihad Stadium runs until June 2023, and The Sun reports that City are keen to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

But United and Liverpool are both interested in the attacking midfielder, who scored a hat-trick against the Red Devils in a 4-2 win for the under-23s in August.

If McAtee does move to Old Trafford, he will follow the likes of Carlos Tevez and Owen Hargreaves, who played for both clubs in recent years. Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho started his career at City and is now at United following a highly-successful spell with Borussia Dortmund.

United and Liverpool are not the only two clubs to have expressed an interest in the England under-20 international, with The Athletic reporting that Brighton & Hove Albion recently made an £8million bid which was rejected.

Pep Guardiola's men have had a frustrating week following a surprise 2-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace yesterday, which followed on from a Carabao Cup fourth round exit at the hands of West Ham United on Wednesday.

City are back in action on Saturday when they face United in a Manchester derby at Old Trafford. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men will hope they have now turned the corner after a convincing 3-0 win over Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium yesterday.
