Manchester City Targeting Summer Move For Manchester United Flop

Could a move happen?

Manchester City may well be looking for a new goalkeeper in the summer given the current predicament in between the sticks.

Willy Caballero's contract expires at the end of the season, while Claudio Bravo has failed to impress after moving from Barcelona in the summer. As for Joe Hart, he would appear to have no first-team future at the club when his loan spell at Torino expires.

Hart himself spoke about not having a City future back in March:

And Peter O'Rourke from ESPN FC is reporting that as a result, Pep Guardiola is considering a move for Victor Valdes, who was his number one goalkeeper for years in his glittering spell at Barcelona.

The 35-year old, who had a brief and unsuccessful stint with Manchester United under Louis van Gaal, is widely expected to be on the move after Middlesbrough were finally condemned to relegation following their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

Valdes is well aware of exactly what Pep Guardiola demands from his goalkeeper after excelling under the City boss at the Nou Camp, and winning multiple prizes and trophies.

And he would be a safe bet for the goalkeeping berth, with it being a rather seamless transition into Pep's City side for Valdes, who has Premier League experience and the know-how of Guardiola's philosophy.

Valdes still has a year remaining on his deal at the Riverside Stadium, but the consensus is that Boro will not be able to retain him for next season's campaign in the second tier, and one would not expect it not be a division the goalkeeper is keen on playing in.
