Manchester City have been knocked out of the Champions League, meaning Leicester City are the only English side in the competition.

Goals from Kylian Mbappe and Fabinho put a dominant Monaco side in the lead in the first half as City were utterly outclassed.

They didn't even have a shot on goal and barely even got in Monaco's box.

In the second half though, City were by far the better side and barely gave the hosts a sniff.

They created a whole host of great chances before Leroy Sane was in the right place to smash home after Danijel Subasic could only parry Raheem Sterling's effort into the path of the German international in 71st minute.

City, at this point, were heading through but Monaco scored a third with their only chance of the first leg.

Just six minutes later, Tiemoue Bakayoko sprung free in the box and headed home from an inswinging Thomas Lemar free-kick.

Those all-important three away goals proved decisive for Monaco, as City crash out of the competition on the away goals ruling, which will no doubt open up a debate as to whether the rule should be scrapped.

Pep Guardiola's side weren't beat by an average team by any means. This is a Monaco side who are brimming with quality and are the top team in France at present but not turning up in the first half in a game of this magnitude can only be viewed as major disappointment for anyone connected with Manchester City.

If City do not win the FA Cup and fail to finish in the top four, it will be a disastrous first season for Pep Guardiola - even if it is clear that he cannot work wonders overnight.

However if they do wrap up a top four finish and do lift the FA Cup at Wembley, it will be a satisfactory debut campaign in England for Guardiola, who is well aware that wholesale changes are needed to get this team up to the level he wants.

As for the Champions League draw, we only have to wait until Friday to see what tasty fixtures we have in store in the quarter finals.

What quarter final ties are you hoping to see? Who is your money on to go all the way and win the competition?

As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments.
