Federico Macheda completely lost his head for Novara in the Serie B, yesterday.

The Italian striker broke onto the scene with his heroics for Manchester United, netting a injury-time winner against Aston Villa in 2009. What an introduction.

Though, unfortunately, his career has gone down hill ever since.

He spent time away from Old Trafford by going out on loan to a shitload of teams, including QPR, Doncaster Rovers, Birmingham City, among others, eventually signing for Cardiff City, where he was (again) loaned out to Nottingham Forest.

Macheda is back in Italy with Novara, and endured a nightmare game in the league. But it started so well.

He opened the scoring against Cremonese before being shown a straight red card for TWO moments of madness.

Macheda began his chaotic few seconds by lashing out while on the ground. Then squaring up with another opposition player, before headbutting him who hit the ground like a sack of sh*t.

Last year, Macheda detailed a conversation with then-United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Explaining how 'Fergie' wanted him to go out on loan in England, while the player himself was hellbent on returning to Italy.

He's called it the 'worst mistake of my life'.

"Fergie wanted me to go on loan; I could see that was sensible. Many Premier League clubs came in for me including Everton and Sunderland," he said.

"But I wanted to play in Italy, in Serie A. Fergie did not agree and said I should play in England, where he could keep an eye on me.

"He said he didn't have the same power in Italy. I insisted on Italy and that was the worst mistake of my life."

Federico Macheda. What could have been.
