Due to the impressive form of Danny Rose and Ryan Bertrand this season, it's easy to forget that neither were Roy Hodgson's first choice left-back at the beginning of the season. That honour had been bestowed upon Luke Shaw but, following a horrific leg break, the Manchester United defender has been out of action since September. Next week, however, Shaw will return to first team training.
Shaw's double fracture of his right leg, sustained during a Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven, has kept the former Southampton youngster on the treatment table for seven months. The first diagnoses suggested that Shaw's season was over but gradually the prognosis became more and more positive until reaching the point now where he's looking likely to play a role in United's end of season run in.
Shaw's debut season was blighted by injuries but the 20-year-old began this campaign on fire, putting in a string of excellent performances as he began to justify his £30m price tag. Both United and England fans will hope his recent spell on the sidelines won't have set him back too much. Although we suspect Ryan Bertrand and Danny Rose will be happy to see him take his time to full form ahead of Euro 2016.
