Dejan Lovren has had some thinly-veiled digs at Jose Mourinho's tactics ahead of the big game between Manchester United and Liverpool on Saturday.

The two sides are separated by just two points in the Premier League and the match at Old Trafford could be key in deciding who finishes in second place, which United currently occupy.

The last four Manchester-United Liverpool games have been anything but the pulsating, all-action affairs we were accustomed to seeing a few years back, with Mourinho opting for a defensive approach in consecutive 0-0 draws at Anfield in the past two seasons.

And Lovren reckons the same tactics will be employed by the Portuguese manager come Saturday lunchtime, despite United being on home soil.

"I think so. They need the points, definitely," he is quoted as saying by Metro.

"For them it will be maybe a point good but for us, we never play for a point. We are there, we will give our best.

"We will play like we play every day - attacking football. Let's enjoy it.

"You know, Mourinho has his own plans. Whatever he wants to do, it is not our job to know. It is our job to focus on ourselves and play how we hope will beat them."

Lovren had a difficult period in the season, notably having a torrid time in the 4-1 defeat to Spurs at Wembley in October, where he was at fault for the first two goals.

But to the Croatian's credit, he's turned things and formed a decent partnership with Virgil van Dijk.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo about his upturn in confidence and form he said:

"In those difficult situations, I saw the support from some really good people like the manager, the club, my team-mates and of course the supporters who are ready always to support you.

"We [Liverpool] play a really high line, offensive football and sometimes you are one against one against top strikers and top strikers need just one chance. If they score then they will blame you or someone else.

"I had many times these wrong decisions that I made, sometimes I can accept it, sometimes not because football is like that. But in the end it depends on yourself and whether you are ready to move on or not."
