Is Louis van Gaal heading back to a dugout?

He's been out of management since being sacked by Manchester United in 2016, two days prior to winning the FA Cup. Despite claiming silverware, van Gaal was ruthlessly binned.

But over a year out of the game, he's being linked with a stunning job.

Following Bayern Munich parting company with Carlo Ancelotti, the experienced Dutch boss is reportedly a candidate to replace him per German outlet Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung via Bleacher Report.

Last week, Ancelotti was sacked after losing to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

A number of high-profile managers have already been linked with the vacancy, with Hoffenheim's Julian Nagelsmann the favourite.

However, Nagelsmann is reportedly in line to take over the helm at the end of the season with the German champions looking for a manager on an interim basis till the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

The 66-year-old has previously enjoyed a stint at the Allianz Arena. He managed the club from 2009 to 2011, winning the Bundesliga title while finishing runners up to Inter Milan in the 2010 Champions League final.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are five points adrift of league leaders Borussia Dortmund as they continue to show frailties even without Ancelotti.

Former player Willy Sagnol is currently in charge of the Bayern team.
