Steven Gerrard would 'walk into' the Rangers team. Well, that's according to his former Liverpool teammate Danny Murphy.

The 38-year-old was in action over the weekend as he turned out for a Liverpool legends side to face AC Milan legends in a charity match.

And he bossed it. The ex-England international scored Liverpool's winning goal in typically brilliant fashion.

He unleashed a stinging strike into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Gerrard's performance impressed plenty of onlookers including Murphy, who believes he could still ply his trade as a professional footballer.

Murphy played with him at Liverpool from 1998 until 2004, and he reckons the legendary midfielder is still capable of doing a job in the middle of the park.

"I don't know his fitness right now," Murphy said about Gerrard. "But what I saw the other day and what I've seen over the years, with a little bit of tweaking, he would walk into that Rangers team.

"He would boss it. He would be humble and say no. He's still in his 30s.

"If he put his boots on against Celtic it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they won and he got the winner.

"That's just what he does. But he's not going to do it so let's not get hopeful for the Rangers fans."

Gerrard called time on his illustrious career in 2016 at LA Galaxy following a 17-season spell at Liverpool.

His current team boast midfield options in Andy Halliday, Lassana Coulibaly, Glen Kamara and Steven Davis, among others. Is Gerrard better than them?

Meanwhile, Gerrard's Rangers are a massive 10 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premier League.

But his side have the chance to cut their lead down to seven points on Sunday when they meet in The Old Firm derby.
