Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has emerged as a shock candidate for the vacant Everton job following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti.

As a result, the Toffees are on the hunt for a new boss with The Athletic claiming that Gerrard is in the frame along with former Reds manager Rafael Benitez.
The ex-England captain led Rangers to the Scottish title last season in a remarkable campaign that saw them go unbeaten in the league.
He has been at the helm of the club since June 2018 - with the Liverpool icon previously linked with a sensational return to Anfield.
Everton are believed to be drawing up a shortlist of potential replacements but no contact has been made.

Gerrard and Benitez join David Moyes, Paulo Fonseca, Erik ten Hag and Roberto Martinez in the candidates to replace Ancelotti.
The legendary Italian manager enjoyed a blistering start in the Premier League last season.

But they tailed off towards the end of the campaign, eventually finishing in a disappointing 10th place with 59 points.
Ancelotti thanked the club for the opportunity in an emotional message on social media.
He tweeted: "I would like to thank Everton FC, my players and the supporters for giving me the opportunity to manage this fantastic and historical club. I decided to leave as I have a new challenge with a team that was always in my heart, Real Madrid."
In another tweet, he added: "I leave taking with me all the amazing moments we have experienced together and wish the Club and fans all the best.
