There's nothing quite like a rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' before a Premier League or European fixture.

Regardless of who you support, you just have to appreciate Liverpool's magnificent support and to put their atmosphere into perspective, a poll of over 4,000 fans of top flight teams have voted Liverpool as the noisiest fans in the Premier League.

Even Manchester United fans have conceded that Anfield is louder than Old Trafford on a weekly basis, not to mention the fact that the Scousers have the loudest away support.

The following results are from a poll by Barclays done back in April, including the most likely fans to sing for their team at home and away games. It certainly makes for interesting reading.

Noisiest home fans: 1st Liverpool. 2nd Newcastle. 3rd. Crystal Palace. 4th Manchester United 5th Stoke City.

Noisiest away fans: 1st Liverpool. 2nd Newcastle. 3rd Manchester United. 4th West Ham. 5th Crystal Palace.

Recently, Napoli's Dries Mertens told of how he didn't get caught up in the hype of the famous 'This is Anfield' sign when he first came across it.

Having previously turned out in a Europa League game away at Liverpool for Utrecht eight years ago, he said he wasn't impressed after hearing a lot about it.

"My strongest memory is that they have a sign saying 'This is Anfield' and everyone was talking about it, so I was thinking it's very big, you know," Mertens told The Times in an interview.

"I came through the tunnel and I asked, 'Where is the thing?' and they said you missed it and I hadn't noticed it.

"So, in the second half, I'm looking at this small thing and asking, 'Is this so special?'"

Mertens, however, has been the latest visitor to rue his words after Napoli lost 1-0 in the crucial Champions League game at Anfield and fell into the Europa League for the second consecutive year.

He joins the likes of Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann, Massimo Carrera and Kevin De Bruyne in playing down the atmosphere Liverpool fans create but then ending up losing.
