Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre seems to be in the mood to take a stroll down memory lane as he prepares to bring the curtain down on his time at Anfield.

Ayre joined Liverpool as commercial director in 2007 and was promoted to chief executive by owners FSG in 2013, but the lifelong Reds supporter will depart the club when his contact runs out at the end of the season.

Ayre is heading to Germany to take over as general manager at 1860 Munich, but before he goes he's making sure everyone knows who his favourite signing was during his time overseeing transfer.

You probably won't be surprised to know that honour goes to a certain Brazilian midfielder who is still at Liverpool today:

Moreover, Ayre has also revealed his regret surrounding the one potential signing that he couldn't quite get over the line.

Speaking to FC Business, he said: "Of course, there are some signings that unfortunately don't come off but the experiences you never forget. Sitting in Ukraine the day way broke out, trying to sign Yevhen Konoplyanka which sadly never got done because of the selling club."

Of course, Konoplyanka went on to sign for Spanish side Sevilla - who defeated Liverpool in last season's Europa League final.

Ayre hasn't always been flavour of the month among Liverpool supporters, notably when it came to ticket prices, but how do you think his time will be remembered at the club?
