Lionel Messi Has Only Failed To Score Against Eight Club Opponents

Lionel Messi has been a professional footballer for 17 years and only a handful of teams have stopped him.

Lionel Messi's goal against Cadiz on Sunday means he has only failed to score against eight teams he has come up against in his club career.

Until yesterday, the six-time Ballon d'Or winner had never been on the scoresheet against the Andalusian outfit but he ticked them off his list when he scored a penalty in a 1-1 draw against them at the Nou Camp.

In nearly 17 years as a professional since he made his Blaugrana debut, Messi has scored a ridiculous 655 goals in 762 appearances and scored against 69 of the 78 teams he has played against.

Just eight teams have managed to stop him finding the net. Inter Milan are the biggest team on the list, with Messi goalless in four appearances against the Italian giants - including three blanks against Jose Mourinho and his 2009/10 treble-winning Nerazzurri team.

He's also yet to score against Rubin Kazan, Benfica, Udinese, Al Saad, Xerez, Murcia and Gramenet.

Gramenet beat Frank Rijkaard's in the Copa Del Rey in what was Messi's third official appearance, while he also drew a blank against Udinese in a 2005 Champions League game where Ronaldinho scored a hat-trick in a 4-1 win.

Against Al-Sadd, Real Murcia and Benfica he contributed through assists but didn't score - while he was a substitute in both appearances against Xerez, now in the fourth tier of Spanish football, home and away in La Liga in 2009/10.

Russian side Rubin Kazan have been an extremely tough nut for Messi and Barcelona to crack. Not only has he not scored against them, he's also only tasted victory once in four meetings - drawing two and lose one.

Messi did have difficulty against Chelsea and Liverpool at one stage but put that behind him with impressive Champions League goalscoring displays in recent years.

Playing against the 'big six' of the Premier League, Messi has a sensational record of 26 goals in 34 games. Not bad at all considering he's never played in England.
