The headline news today is Steven Gerrard's announcement that he has called time on his playing career, with a future in management presumably in the pipeline for the Liverpool legend.

The Anfield idol leaves behind one of the greatest legacies the Merseyside club has ever seen and it's unlikely any other player will ever have the same impact as Gerrard at Anfield, again.

It didn't take long for the tributes to the Champions League and FA Cup winning midfielder to begin pouring in, with memories of Olympiakos, Istanbul, the 2006 FA Cup final, countless Merseyside derbies and triumphs over Manchester United and the time he decked that DJ in a Southport nightclub for not playing Phil Collins being recounted by fans, former teammates and pundits alike:

Of course, no matter who you support, we can all agree that Steven Gerrard's dedication to having pretty much the same hairstyle for his entire playing career is worth celebrating. Even if he still didn't do it as well as Javier Zanetti.
