A fan's Lionel Messi Twitter thread has become an online sensation after highlighting the Barcelona superstar's insane stats against other legends.

Twitter user Arron Duckling tweeted out an "absurd stat" of how the 32-year-old Argentine forward has played 577 matches in 11 seasons for Barcelona (from 208/09 to 2018/19) and scored an incredible 561 times.

"Thread: An absurd stat about Lionel Messi. In the 11 full seasons from 08/09 to 18/19, he scored 561 goals in 577 games for Barcelona, good enough for 0.97 goals/game over 11 seasons," Duckling tweeted.

"That, quite obviously is good. But how can we make this even more ridiculous than it already is?"

The Twitter user then proceeded to compare Messi's stats with 11 European Golden Boot winners' best seasons.

And Duckling found that despite adding their collective stats, they managed to score 489 times in 532 matches and still fall well short of Messi's impressive stats.

The Golden Boot winners include Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and Roma icon Francesco Totti.

Messi, who captured a record sixth Ballon d'Or in 2019, has his club future up in the air after a public spat with Barca sporting director Eric Abidal.

The Argentina captain has a special transfer clause inserted into his contract and could make a sensational exit from the club in the summer.
