You either loved or hated Lionel Messi passing from a penalty to set up Luis Suarez. Personally I thought it was brilliant but some thought it was unnecessary and disrespectful to the opposition. Diego Maradona's had his say.
For once someone's actually asked the Argentine footballing legend for his opinion on it but normally he doesn't need an invitation to let the world know what he's thinking, whether it's a sensible opinion or not.
And the former Argentina manager pulled no punches when he criticized Messi and co saying: "If I'd have been on the pitch for Messi's indirect penalty, there would have been punches thrown, regardless of whether it was the A, the B, the C or the D division, for sure there would have been punches thrown."
Advert
Messi was always known as the new Maradona as he went through the ranks, as is any attacking Argentinian player who shows any promise as a youngster, and the Barcelona forward has eclipsed his former manager other than winning the World Cup.
