Steven Gerrard dropped a masterclass against Germany in a sensational performance that will go down as one of the greatest individual England displays.

Gerrard starred as England famously smashed Germany 5-1 in a World Cup qualifier back in 2001.

He inspired a heroic fight back as the Three Lions came from one down to beat their old rivals on their own patch.

The Liverpool legend was at the heart of England's midfield, as he orchestrated attacks and showed off his defensive side too.

He sprayed his trademark long-range passes from the engine room of the pitch and brilliantly set up a goal for Michael Owen after expertly dispossessing Michael Ballack.

Gerrard also got on the score-sheet himself, volleying home a stunning strike from distance that found the bottom corner.

Twitter user @gdonlfc uploaded a compilation of Gerrard's outing for England and it makes for incredible viewing.

Fans online couldn't get enough of Gerrard's international showing.

One tweeted: "So clear of Zidane as a non-biased football fan."

A second wrote: "And people question who the greatest English midfielder of the Premier League era is?! Not even in doubt... Gerrard is clear."

A third added: "Most fans try to convince themselves that Gerrard wasn't as good as Scholes or Lampard just because he played for Liverpool. They also say he never played well for England. Most actually never seen him play every week trust me Gerrard was the best midfielder in England 100%."

Just how good was Gerrard in his heyday? Let us know.
