Lionel Messi is once again tearing up La Liga this season with Barcelona.

The 31-year-old Argentine ace, who will return for international duty this year, has scored 19 times in the league.

When he's not scoring in the final third, he's working that Messi magic and setting up his teammates.

That's right, the Barcelona captain already has ten assists to his name and his stats show that he has been involved in a goal every 52 minutes. Overall, Messi has scored 26 times and has 13 assists this season.

Kevin-Prince Boateng, who signed for Barcelona in the January transfer window, has praised the Argentina captain as the best player in the world.

"I am a Barcelona player and Lionel Messi is the best player in this world and every world," he told reporters.

"Why are you laughing? That's the truth, he has shown that with all that he has won in the last ten years.

"It's a great honour [to be at Barcelona] because Messi is the best player in the world, and Luis Suárez the best striker in the world.

"They play amazingly and being able to play by their side is a great gift."

He's not the only one to echo strong sentiments about the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

In fact, Atlético Madrid star Filipe Luís was confused at how Messi finished in fifth place for France Football's coveted prize in December.

"When I get on the pitch my mission is to not let the opponents do anything, be that Messi or any other player," he told Globo Esporte.

"But after so many years I see a guy who continues to reinvent himself -- he's played out wide and now he plays in the middle.

"Suddenly, I hear that he didn't deserve to win the Ballon d'Or because he had a bad season in 2018?

"He won La Liga, he won the Copa del Rey, he was the top scorer in Europe and provided loads of assists.

"Whoever thinks Messi doesn't deserve the Ballon d'Or isn't seeing what I'm seeing. Either that or I don't know anything about football."

Will Messi once again win the European Golden Shoe?
