Leeds United captain Liam Cooper was sent off at the Etihad Stadium following a reckless challenge on Gabriel Jesus in today's early kick-off.

The Brazilian beat Cooper to the ball as he ran down he left on the stroke of half-time and although he appeared to get a touch on the ball, the Scotland international was late on the City No.9 with a tackle that was high and out of control.

Initially, Andre Marriner had given a yellow card for the foul but after watching the incident back on the VAR screen, upgraded to red and gave Cooper his marching orders.

Leading scorer Patrick Bamford was taken off for Pascal Struijk after Leeds went down to 10 men.

Marcelo Bielsa's side had gone 1-0 up in the first half through Stuart Dallas' strike. The effort was Leeds' first on goal compared to eleven attempts from City that never amounted to anything.

Leeds fans felt aggrieved with the decision to send Cooper off given Sheffield United's George Baldock was not punished for a wild two-footed lunge on Tyler Roberts last week.
