Las Palmas Hired A Private Detective To Spy On Their Own Player

A crazy story coming out of Spain...

Spanish side Las Palmas hired a private detective to spy on their own player.

The Gran Canaria outfit were looking for any excuse to offload midfielder Tana, who they opened disciplinary proceedings against earlier this year.

And so according to Cadena Cope and MARCA, the decision was made from officials within the Canary Islands club to pay for a private investigator.

The thinking behind the bizarre and unprecedented call was that the detective would follow him on a daily basis, hour to hour and be on hand to witness if he stepped out of line in some shape or form.

Tana's every move was followed for around a month before the spy reported his findings back to the club - with the hope being they would have grounds to release him his contract three years before it is due to expire.

Unsurprisingly, the 29-year old got his lawyers on the case after finding out he'd been spied on and a legal battle has ensued.

Though the player himself has not commented on the situation, it's said those close to him believe there is no evidence of wrongdoing on his part.

Still, it's hard to imagine him staying with the club after this Sherlock Holmes-esque episode.

Tana has made over 100 appearances for Las Palmas, including turning out for the club in La Liga. Last year he was loaned out to Zhejiang Greentown in China, where he played ten times.
