A striker playing in La Liga has been hit with a nine-month prison sentence.

Sergio Araujo, who plays for ninth-placed La Palmas in the Spanish top tier, has been sent to prison and hit with a two-year driving ban in relation to an incident that occurred back in September.

The Argentine forward is adjudged to have failed a breathaliser test following a reported "traffic safety" incident in Gran Canaria, according toCadena Ser.

The 24-year old has turned out for Barcelona's B team in the past and the No.10 has scored two goals for his side this season.

Like most of the occasions with footballers falling foul of the law, chances are he won't actually serve time in a prison cell but it's certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
