Of course, the MLS operates a playoff format with the regular season running from March to October, with each team playing 34 games.

The Supporters' Shield is awarded to the best regular team. Fourteen clubs then compete in the postseason MLS Cup Playoffs.

The playoff structure is the first time the Swede has encountered the format following his time in Europe which adopts a league system with the team with the most points at the end of the season winning the title.

The California-based outfit currently occupy a playoff spot. They sit in fifth place with 37 points on the board with cross-town rivals Los Angeles FC at the top of the Western Conference.

But Ibrahimovic's team boast a victory over their neighbours. The 37-year-old rolled back the years by producing a stunning individual performance as he bagged a superb hat-trick in the LA Derby.

"When you play against a rival like that, in a full stadium, I get pumped. I get adrenaline. This is considered to be the biggest game in the league, and I show up in the biggest games," he said after his side's 3-2 victory.

"I am in play-off mode every day."

The ex-Manchester United man has scored 16 goals in 18 MLS games for Galaxy this season.
