Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany thinks his side will get a bit of support from the other half of Manchester when the take on Liverpool in the Champions League quarter finals.

It's been a fair bit of time since we've had an all-English Champions League knockout clash and the two fixtures between City and Liverpool, two of the most entertaining teams in Europe, promise to be very special.

The first leg is at Anfield on 4 April, before the Etihad Stadium plays host to the second leg on 10 April.

It'll be a difficult watch for Manchester United fans, who saw their team suffer a shock elimination to Sevilla in the round of 16.

To quote a past comment from Gary Neville, United supporters having to pick a team to go through would be like choosing between two blokes to nick your wife, but Kompany reckons United fans will side with their fellow cross-city rivals.

"It is the only thing people talk about in Manchester right now," Kompany told Sky Sports.

"The Champions League is obviously massive, somehow I feel like we do get a little bit of support from the United fans for that fixture [against Liverpool].

"But other than that the game against United is the biggest thing to talk about but we still have to play Everton."

In between the two legs against Liverpool, City can win the Premier League title with victory over United at the Etihad on the derby.

Addressing the media after a huge 2-0 win over Stoke City on 12 March, Kompany had the following to say about a potential memorable title triumph:

"Everybody in the blue side of Manchester knows it's a once in a lifetime opportunity [to win the title against United], but steady, it won't be handed to us.

"Every win brings you closer to your goal but we want to keep this standard until the end of the season and into the next season too."
