Jurgen Klopp has backed Loris Karius following his pre-season blunder against Tranmere Rovers.

Liverpool continued to gear up for the new season with a game against the League Two outfit on Tuesday. And while the Premier League side came out victorious, Karius' mistake grabbed all the headlines.

The German keeper is probably still having nightmares about his mistakes in last season's Champions League final and ahead of the new campaign, he continues to be in calamitous form.

He fumbled the ball from a free-kick into the path of a Tranmere player who scored.

Tranmere's Ben Tollitt rubbed salt into the wounds by shouting 'you're f*cking sh*t' in Karius' direction. Brutal.

Despite people on Twitter bombarding Karius with disparaging comments, Klopp has defended his keeper.

"Mistakes will happen; I don't like it, he doesn't like it," he said.

Klopp reckons Karius 'could' have saved the shot though admitted it was "not easy to deal with".

Klopp added: "Let's carry on and make the best of all these situations by learning from them."

The German boss has already dipped into the transfer market, shelling out millions to acquire the services of Naby Keita (pre-contract agreement) and Fabinho.

He's actively looking for a new No.1 with the likes of Jack Butland and Alisson Becker among those reportedly catching his eye.

Though the AS Roma star is supposedly set to sign for Real Madrid who are also hellbent on drafting in a new keeper.
