Kevin De Bruyne Expresses Shock Over Leroy Sane's World Cup Snub

Kevin de Bruyne shares everyone's disbelief over Leroy Sane being snubbed from Germany's 23-man World Cup squad.

News broke yesterday that the attacker will not be a part of Germany's squad for his summer's tournament in Russia, with manager Joachim Löw opting for Bayer Leverkusen winger Julian Brandt instead.

The boss said of his choice via Bavarian Football Works : "That was a very close decision between him and Julian Brandt, which was made in favor of Brandt. Draxler, Reus and Müller are set. Leroy is a huge talent. He will be back again from September. He had not arrived in international matches yet. It was a very close decision. If it was a 100 meter race, it would have been a photo finish."

Hmmm, we're not so sure about that, Joachim.

Sane has been smashing it for Man City and won the PFA Player of the Season Award for his efforts last season, his side earning a record-breaking points total and winning Premier League.

But the German boss clearly felt he wasn't up to scratch and made a decision that sent the social media world into a frenzy.

And now Belgium international and Citizen teammate Kevin de Bruyne has come out to express his shock that the 22-year-old star was not selected.

De Bruyne said via Goal: "I didn't talk with him yet, it just happened, obviously."

"I just want to give him some space because I don't think he thought he wouldn't be in the squad.

"For me he has been the best young player this year in the whole world, so you can see how I rate him.

"In the end I don't know what happened in Germany, maybe there was an issue between them [Sane and Low]. We'll never know, I guess."

Sane is one of the biggest talents in the world right now and offers pace and trickery like no one else can.

It's bewildering that he's not going to Russia - but it does, however, highlight the depth and strength of the German squad.

It's hard to look past them as real favourites for summer's World Cup.
