Kalidou Koulibaly Makes Defending Against Kylian Mbappe Look Easy

That's how you do it...

Defending against Kylian Mbappe must be an absolute nightmare for defenders, particularly in 1v1 situations. The World Cup winner has everything: pace, power, skill - and he's made some of the very best in the business look foolish.

Tonight, however, Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly came up trumps against the PSG winger in the Champions League clash - matching him for pace and then producing a perfect slide tackle to regain possession.

A phenomenal piece of defending from the Senegalese defender, who is quickly establishing himself as one of the very best centre-backs in football.

Koulibaly came up against Mbappe a couple of weeks ago at the Parc des Princes and came up with a genius way of dealing with the 2017 Golden Boy.

He produced a commanding display that highlighted just why so many top clubs have been circling around him, but undoubtedly his best moment was when he went to extreme lengths to ensure his left-back was much tighter on the PSG No.7.

With the scores at 1-1 in the 75th minute, the World Cup winner had the ball on the right and recognising that Marco Rui was too far away from Mbappe, Koulibaly literally shoved his teammate so that he was closer to the PSG No.7, who was then forced to concede possession.

The whole thing was something you'd expect on a mucky playing field at 9am on a Sunday, not in Europe's premier club competition.

But as bizarre as it was, you have to say it worked a treat as a potentially dangerous attack was eventually thwarted. Maybe a few other players will adopt the same unusual approach.
