It appears as though Jose Mourinho has made bringing in a top striker in the summer a priority, with the futures of Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic up in the air.

Rooney has struggled this season, and the talk is that could return to Everton or move the MLS. As for Ibrahimovic, he has hit 27 goals in all competitions for the club, but his nasty injury suffered against Anderlecht is set to keep him out for 6-8 months, which could well mean he has played his last game for the club. He signed a one-year deal, with United having an option to extend - though it looks unlikely that they will now following the 35-year old suffering ligament damage.

That means that Mourinho is already on the look-out for attackers to provide extra firepower up top.

Long-time target Antoine Griezmann and Torino striker Andrea Belotti, who has hit 27 goals this season, have both been linked, as has Everton's Romelu Lukaku.

However, the latest report is that Mourinho has his eyes on another striker and has already been in contact with him about joining.

According to Cadena Ser in Spain, Mourinho has been in touch with Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata about a move to Old Trafford.

The Spaniard, despite his obvious qualities, is still considered second choice to Karim Benzema in the Real Madrid striker department and there is talk that he wants to leave Los Blancos for the second time in the summer.

A reunion with Antonio Conte at Chelsea, has been strongly rumoured and the player himself has noted that he believes he will play under the Italian again.

But he could well link up with another of his former bosses in Mourinho, who gave him his debut in professional football back in 2010 in a 3-1 win over Real Zaragoza in La Liga when he was managing Madrid.

The 24-year old has come on leaps and bounds since then, and has scored 17 goals for Real in all competitions this season.
