'No-One Has Won More Than Me' - Chelsea Star Jorginho Issues Strong Statement For 2021 Ballon d'Or

Euro 2020 winner Jorginho has asserted his claims for this year's Ballon d'Or after becoming a double European champion.

Italy and Chelsea star Jorginho believes he is a top prospect for France Football's sought-after Ballon d'Or award, as "no-one" has won more than him this season.

The Italian midfielder topped off his most impressive year to date by winning the European Championship with Italy following a win over England on Sunday evening.

Jorginho is believed to be on the shortlist for a number of big European clubs after a magnificent year for Chelsea and Italy.

Italy's win over England means that Jorginho has finished this year's campaign as a double European champion, having won the Champions League with Chelsea in May.

While Jorginho is not an obvious choice for Ballon d'Or success, his trophy collection means he cannot remain ignored.

Jorginho has said that depending on the criteria for the award, he deserves to be in the running.

"We live for dreams," Jorginho told SportTV.

"But I'll be honest enough: it depends on the criteria that leads to assigning it.

"If we talk about talent, I'm aware I'm not the best in the world. If you choose based on titles, well, no-one has won more than me this season."

Argentina's Copa America victory and Lionel Messi's first major tournament win for his country means he is once again a frontrunner for the award. The Barcelona legend is looking to pick up the award for the seventh time.

Jorginho's Chelsea teammate N'Golo Kante was a leading candidate for the award after Chelsea's Champions League success. However, France's poor showing at Euro 2020 is believed to count against the Frenchman.

Other than Luka Modric's win in 2018, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have shared the winnings for 11 years.

Like 2018, when fans were disappointed at the decision to award the prestigious prize to Modric, if Jorginho is to win the Ballon d'Or, there is bound to be uproar as fans across the world are in admiration at Messi's first major silverware for Argentina.

Could Jorginho become the first Premier League winner of the Ballon d'Or since Ronaldo won the award in 2008?
