Jordan Henderson Isn't Giving Up On Catching Manchester City Just Yet

Jordan Henderson Isn't Giving Up On Catching Manchester City Just Yet

Blind optimism?

Most people have more or less that Manchester City are going to be lifting the Premier League title but Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is still believing.

The Reds, who have been in very good form and are currently third in the table, haven't won a league title since 1990 - coming close in 2013/14 under Brendan Rodgers before their late collapse that allowed City to take advantage.

Pep Guardiola's runaway leaders are 13 points clear of second-placed Manchester United and 15 points in front of Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool.

With 72 points on the board, City only need to win five of their last eleven games to claim a third Premier League crown.

But while Henderson acknowledges City are in a healthy position, he isn't giving up just yet as we enter the business end of the season.

"You've got to keep going," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"Manchester City have a healthy gap at the top, and the title is theirs to lose more than anything - but we are Liverpool. We can't just give up.

"As a club, we have a lot to play for until the end of the season, in terms of Premier League points and, hopefully, more games in the Champions League.

"We've got a healthy squad who want to work hard, to win, and it's still pretty tight in terms of finishing in the top four.

'We go to Manchester United in about 10 days - that's always a massive game, and this season is no different. It could have a big influence on where we finish."

Liverpool take on Newcastle at Anfield at the weekend, before playing the second leg against Porto in the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday. The Reds are as good as through after their 5-0 away demolition a couple of weeks back.
