Jordan Henderson put so much into Liverpool's phenomenal Champions League semi-final comeback victory over Barcelona that he had to be picked up by his teammates at the final whistle.

After doing his best Steven Gerrard impression when Divock Origi put the Reds 1-0 up inside seven minutes, Henderson was involved in a collision with Barcelona centre-back Clement Lenglet in the first-half and was left barely able to walk, never-mind run.

But not wanting to go off at half-time, he ordered the doctor to give him everything in order to carry on and help his team complete one of the greatest comebacks in Champions League history.

At the final whistle he was out on his feet, lying on the floor from the pain from that first-half knock. As shown in fan footage doing the rounds, the former Sunderland man managed to sit up but needed the assistance of Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk to help him to his feet.

He prove a lot of doubters wrong with his display and left absolutely everything out on the pitch.

Speaking after the game, via The Mirror, Henderson said: "I was struggling when I got a whack on the knee,"

"It was dead. The doctor said just keep it moving. I managed to get to half time and I had a bit of treatment, took painkillers, all that stuff which helped."

"There was a jab and tablets. Both. Everything. I said: 'just give us everything'.

"So I managed to get through it and the crowd helped as well and keep us going. It was an amazing night and I am honoured to be part of it and contribute."

When asked where the performance against Barcelona ranks in his career, Henderson said it was right up there.

"It has to be the top. It was an unbelievable night. From start to finish I thought the lads were amazing," the Liverpool skipper added.

"The atmosphere was amazing. It was just unbelievable. And we always believed. It is hard to say that when you get beat 3-0 in the Nou Camp, but in the changing room we had belief we could hurt them.

"Tonight with a special atmosphere with a special crowd special goals created a special night, an amazing night and one that we will remember forever."
