Joey Barton insists Scott Brown is nowhere near his standard if he's on his game.

The new Rangers midfielder was speaking on talkSPORT this morning about his move north and the quality of player he'll come up against.

And while claiming not to disrespect any of the current Scottish Premiership players, he confidently insists the Celtic captain will be no match for him in Old Firm games.

Speaking on Alan Brazil's Sports Breakfast, Barton, per talksport.com, said: "People keep talking about Joey Barton and Scott Brown. He ain't in my league. He is nowhere near the level I am as a player. He can't get to me.

"If I play well, Scott Brown doesn't stand a chance. That is not me being blasé. That is me just stating what I believe."

Those are strong words from Barton ahead of at least three Old Firm games between Rangers and Celtic next season.

Barton and Brown have never faced before given the former has never played in Scotland while the latter has spent his whole career at Hibs and Celtic.
