Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has reportedly suffered a potentially serious injury in training today.

Details of the former Charlton Athletic centre-back's injury have yet to be disclosed but according to The Telegraph, there are fears from Gomez that he could be out for quite some time.

England boss Gareth Southgate is expected to provide further information in a press conference later on today.

Gomez is the latest casualty in what has become a serious injury crisis at Liverpool, following on from blows for Fabinho and Virgil van Dijk, who may well not feature for the Premier League champions again this season after undergoing knee surgery.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was also forced off against Manchester City on Sunday and is facing around four weeks on the sidelines.

Add in Thiago Alcantara and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and you have quite the packed list of absentees at Anfield.

Gomez played alongside Joel Matip in the 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium, having also partnered academy products Rhys Williams and Nat Philips at the heart of the backline in recent times.

The versatile Fabinho had been deputising prior to his hamstring injury and now, having allowed Dejan Lovren to leave for Zenit, you'd expect Liverpool to dip into the transfer market as soon as it opens in January.
