Lionel Messi produced a masterful performance against Real Betis, and Joaquin reacted brilliantly to his starring role for Barcelona.

The Catalan giants recorded their 17th La Liga victory of the season as they remain 11 points ahead of nearest rivals, Atletico Madrid, and a further 19 points clear of defending champions, Real Madrid.

Thanks to Messi.

He scored, created, and scored again as Barcelona thrashed Betis 5-0 at the Estadio Benito Villamarín. The five time Ballon d'Or winner's performance unsurprisingly received a standing ovation from the entire home crowd.

And following the game, Betis winger Joaquin summed up his outing in epic fashion.

"When you're against Messi, who...who...*laughs*...well, we don't know what to say [about him] any more..."

Spot on.

He wasn't the only Betis player in awe of the Argentine ace. Keeper Antonio Adan hailed him as the 'best in history'.

"Messi shows in each game that it is not one of the best, but the best in history," he told Sport.

"It is spectacular, as during the first half he barely appeared. It seems that he walks, but he takes four balls and gives two assists and scores two goals.

"It's Messi, and we have to congratulate him because he makes this sport better."

Former Barcelona striker Gary Lineker also weighed-in on his majestic display.

Meanwhile, Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde described him as the best ever while lauding his captain on the night.

"You have to enjoy him. We have been able to live his era. I have suffered because of him and I know what that is like. Now I can enjoy it," he said.

"It is an event to watch him every day. He is the best player there is and there ever will be.

Suarez also weighed in on 30-year-old phenom: "The people who came to the stadium could enjoy it, they had the chance to see the best player in history.

"He plays each game with such detail. He's spectacular," he added.

The bloke is just a genius. The greatest?
