Jamie Carragher is set to be absent from his role as a pundit for Monday Night Football tonight, following the spitting storm that emerged last night.

In footage obtained by The Mirror, the former England international was driving in his car and being goaded by a United fan after Liverpool's 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford.

The supporter was heard saying "Unlucky Jamie lad!" and "2-1!". After the fan wound his window down, Carragher reacted by spitting towards them.

In the clip filmed by the Dad, the girl, 14, says "He spat on me" and adds, "On my face" when he asks where it hit her.

The Sky Sports pundit was scheduled to appear on MNF alongside his former manager Brendan Rodgers for coverage of Stoke City vs Manchester City but Sky News have tweeted to say the former England international will sit this one out.

As per The Mirror, who broke the story, Carragher was asked to explain his behaviour by Sky bosses and they have elected to pull him from tonight's broadcast.

Sky have now confirmed that the former England international has been suspended:
