Jamie Carragher Picks His Premier League Player Of The Year

The right choice?

There's not much to choose from between the candidates for the PFA Player Of The Year awards, with the likes of Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy, Dimitri Payet, N'Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez all working wonders for their teams this term, but Jamie Carragher has stuck his neck out and made his selection as to which player deserves the award the most.

And it is the Algerian wing wizard Mahrez who gets the Liverpool legend's vote, as he revealed in his column for The Daily Mail.

"Kane's goals have put Tottenham in contention to win their first title since 1961, Leicester's story has been well told and Payet's brilliance means West Ham are in the hunt for a Champions League place. If Tottenham win the league and West Ham finish in the top four, the two achievements would be comparable.

"I've never hidden my admiration for Kane and Payet but I think - and hope - the award goes to Mahrez, whose 16 goals (12 away from home) and 11 assists have left Leicester three wins from being crowned champions."

A case could of course be argued for any of the players on the shortlist, but it's hard to argue with Carragher's logic, especially if Leicester finish the season crowned Premier League champions.
