It appears as though Jackie McNamara has finally left his post at York City manager - but the club have asked him to stay on for two more weeks, until a replacement is found.
The former Celtic captain has endured a torrid time with the Minstermen, having been unable to stop the club from slipping out of the Football League last May. Since then, York have started life in the National League pretty abysmally, and the club issued a statement last week seemingly revealing that McNamara had been given an ultimatum ahead of last Saturday's trip to Braintree Town - by himself.
That match ended in a 1-1 draw, and with City just three points from the relegation zone, the board issued a statement today, saying:

"Further to the statement last week regarding the future of York City Manager, Jackie McNamara and following the game on Saturday, it has been decided, in the best interest of York City Football Club, that Jackie McNamara step down as First Team Manager.
"After purposeful discussions it was agreed that results and performances, in the main, have not been acceptable nor have they achieved the high standards expected. In order to assist the managerial transition period and to accommodate a thorough identification, interview and appointment process, the Chairman has asked Jackie McNamara to train and prepare the team until a suitable candidate has been determined.
"This process should be completed within two weeks."
So, in essence, McNamara has been relieved of his duties - or, decided to step down - but he's not actually stepped down yet because he's hanging around until his replacement is found - have we got that right?

Perhaps, and this is just a speculative suggestion, but maybe York City can't afford to pay McNamara off, and this peculiar scenario is the halfway house designed to appease all parties.
