Italy Midfielder Marco Verratti Accused Euro 2020 Final Ref Of Saying 'F**K You' To Him

One man who won't be best pleased with the refereeing appointment for the Euro 2020 final will be Marco Verratti.

Dutchman Bjorn Kuipers will take charge of the showpiece between England and Italy at Wembley on Sunday and he and Verratti had an x-rated bust-up a mere two months ago.

In May, Kuipers officiated Verratti in Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League semi-final second leg defeat to Manchester City, a game where Angel Di Maria was sent off as the French side lost their heads.

After the 2-0 loss at the Etihad Stadium, Verratti claimed that Kuipers said "f**k you" to him on two occasions when he protested a decision.

"The referee also told me 'f*** you' twice," Verratti was quoted as saying.

"For them it's normal, if you say that it's ten matches [ban]. I talk a lot to the referee but I don't say that."

Verratti's club teammate Ander Herrera also complained about the referee's conduct, claiming that the official had told Leandro Paredes to 'f*ck off.'

"The referee tonight said f**k off to Leandro Paredes," Herrera claimed.

"If we say that we get a 3 or 4 match ban."

Manager Mauricio Pochettino asked for UEFA to investigate Kuipers but he was selected as one of the officials for Euro 2020, where he has refereed two group stage matches and a quarter-final.

An international referee since 2006, Kuipers has taken charge of Europa League finals and one Champions League final and will become the first Dutchman to officiate the European Championship final.

In the 2014 World Cup, he was he man in the middle for Italy's 2-1 win over England in Brazil.

According to The Sun, Kuipers is "the world's richest ref" and was worth a staggering £11.5 million back in 2016.

He co-founded supermarket chain Jumbo Kuipers which runs across the Netherlands and Belgium, in addition to running hair salons alongside his wife, Marlies.
