Ashley Williams fitness remains in the balance ahead of their crunch quarter final on Friday night.

Wales progressed through to the quarter-finals with a 1-0 victory over fellow home nation Northern Ireland, after a superb cross from Gareth Bale was converted into his own net by Gareth McAuley.

Though the medical team are unsure whether their skipper will be fit to start, after been involved in a grisly collision with teammate Jonny Williams in the closing stages of the Last 16 tie.

The 31-year-old was pictured with heavy strapping on the injured shoulder via Gareth Bale's Twitter.

The Swansea man is set to undergo a scan before making the call on his place in the starting XI. It appeared he had to go off before shouting "I'm fine!" towards the touchline, with Chris Coleman prepared to enter James Collins into the fray. The Wales boss commented on the injury scare;

"Ash is a bit tender with his shoulder. The next 24 to 48 hours will be key, whether its bruising and just impact, or whether there's damage to any ligaments or a tear in his muscle. Hopefully not that."

The extent of the injury will be revealed tomorrow morning, continuing to add;

"We won't really know until tomorrow, but he was struggling, couldn't move his arm. I was going to take Ash off, had got James Collins ready to come on. But he said he was okay to continue and I trust my captain. I'd like to keep him on the pitch, keep his presence out there for us and he made one or two important blocks. I'm delighted for Ash. It hasn't always been sunshine for us, he's been consistent throughout everything and thoroughly deserves it."

Wales play the winner of Hungary/Belgium on Friday night as they continue their incredible run.
