Crowd trouble has stained the competition.

From England and Russian fans clashing in Marseille to Croatian fans throwing on a firecracker in their game against Czech Republic and an intruder on the pitch in last night's quarter final, the Euros have unfortunately been stained by crowd problems and one Ireland fan has been jailed for eight months following an assault.

In fairness to most fans, especially the Irish, the they have been good natured and created a cracking atmosphere in many of the games and at times been the highlight of a tournament that is still yet to really come to life.

However it is the few idiots who have created many of the headlines. David Hunt from south Dublin was arrested and jailed for eight months after attacking a man in Gare du Nord train station on June 15th.

Hunt is believed to have been the only Irish fan to have been convicted in France during the tournament. The attack took place at 6 am with the 35 year-old attacking a man "with a weapon," although it's not been confirmed what the "weapon" was.

The Irishman was tried quickly on June 17th at the Paris Criminal Court but his family only found out a week later that he'd been jailed and a source told the Herald newspaper, "Nobody has seen him at all. It's like lockdown over there in France. There's no information coming out about where he's jailed."

A spokesperson for the Parisian courts service told the Herald that Hunt could have his sentence reduced and that if the necessary arrangements were made then his family could visit him.

In the main Ireland's fans have won many of their own fans during their time in France.
