Spain secured their place at next year's World Cup finals with a tense 1-0 victory over Sweden thanks to Alvaro Morata's late winner, but it was a young midfielder that stole the show with a performance that showed maturity beyond his tender age.

Gavi is being touted as one of the next big things to come out of Barcelona's La Masia academy, and has made a meteoric rise to the first team.

The 17-year-old is making big waves for his country too, and put in a hugely-impressive display for Spain in Sunday's World Cup qualifier, as La Roja booked a ticket to Qatar.

There was plenty of reaction to his stellar 90-minute performance on social media, and a video lasting 2 minutes and 15 seconds is sparking a huge reaction on Twitter, after being viewed more than 129,000 times and accumulating over 6,000 likes in the process.

His dribbling skills and speed of thought on the ball was clear to see, and this fine individual performance was a shining light in an otherwise cagey contest at the Estadio de La Cartuja.

There is plenty of hype surrounding Gavi right now, which can be seen in the replies to the tweet which includes the video.

There were comparisons to two iconic former Barca stars in Andres Iniesta and Xavi, while others marvelled at the teenager's close control of the ball.

It was the Spaniard's fourth senior cap for his country after being handed his debut in a 2-1 UEFA Nations League semi-final victory over Italy. That gave him the honour of becoming the youngest-ever player to play for the full Spanish side.

Gavi is also the fourth-youngest player ever to feature for Barcelona, when he made his debut in a 2-1 win over Getafe on 29th August.

The midfielder will be hoping to add to his 14 senior appearances for Barca in their clash with Espanyol at the Camp Nou on 20th November.
