FC Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas has suffered a suspected heart attack and needed to be "hospitalised urgently" according to reports in Portugal.

Journalist Joao Oliveira from TVI broke the news on Twitter and Porto then confirmed the story, though fortunately it seems as though the 37-year old is doing well.

He is said to have undergone minor surgery at Hospital CUF in Porto.

MARCA add that the Real Madrid legend felt unwell after a training session today and he is not expected to play again this season.

Casillas, a five-time La Liga winner, three-time Champions League winner as well as a World Cup and European Championships winner as captain with Spain, joined Porto in 2015 after spending 16 seasons in the Real first-team.

Porto have since reacted to the news, tweeting in support of their No.1 and releasing an official statement.

"Iker Casillas suffered an acute myocardial heart attack during training on Wednesday morning," a statement read.

"The training session was promptly interrupted to provide assistance to the FC Porto goalkeeper, who is currently at CUF Hospital Porto. Casillas is well, stable and his heart problem is resolved."

Spain's most-capped player recently signed a new deal with Porto until the end of next season, though there is also the option of an extra year.

After signing his new contract, Casillas revealed his desire of seeing out the remaining days of his career in Portugal.

"Today is a very special day. I feel at home at this club. I want to stay here until I finish my career as a footballer," he said in March, as per The Mirror.

"When I got here, many would think it would be to play a year or two and finish. I only have words of appreciation to this club. Not only to the club but to the city itself."

We wish Iker a speedy recovery.
