A former Chelsea youth player has admitted he once puked on the pitch as he was so desperate to succeed at the club.

Daishawn Redan spent two years in the Blues set-up between 2017 and 2019 but never made a first-team appearance.

He impressed in every age group at Cobham but it never captured the attention of senior figures.

The 20-year-old has no hard feelings however and admits he took it to the limit - for his parents.

"The first thing I did with the money I got from Chelsea was to make my parents debt-free," he told Het Pleintje Van, per Funx.

"I know what they did for me, so it was nice that I could give them something back.

"At some point, I turned that switch and started giving everything. I even puked up on the pitch because I was going to the limit.

"In the end, I was so fit that my quality came out. Everything went automatically, and I scored 36 goals in a year."

Redan is currently on loan at Dutch side PEC Zwolle after joining from Hertha Berlin in the transfer window.

He's made two appearances for the Netherlands U21 side, managing to score once.

Redan was at Chelsea when Maurizio Sarri was in charge and left two weeks after Frank Lampard was appointed.

Lampard gave debuts to a number of academy graduates, many of who are now important parts of the Chelsea team.

Reece James and Mason Mount stand out, while Fikayo Tomori and Billy Gilmour were also used.

Chelsea currently have 22 players out on loan and reports suggest just one has a guaranteed future at the club.

Conor Gallagher, who is currently on loan at Crystal Palace, was the subject of interest from a number of Premier League clubs in the transfer window.

Bids were turned down and the 21-year-old is considered non-sellable by Thomas Tuchel.

Gallagher is likely to return to Chelsea next summer and try to earn a spot in their midfield.
