It would never have seemed possible just a few weeks ago but now Valencia are set to offer Gary Neville a new long-term contract in an effort to keep the former Manchester United captain as their permanent manager.
Neville has overseen three consecutive victories after a torrid start at the Mestalla, which included a lengthy winless streak in La Liga and a 7-0 Copa Del Rey mauling by Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
Some Valencia fans were calling for Neville's head after the Barca embarrassment, but following a 2-1 victory over Espanyol, a 6-0 thumping of Rapid Vienna and a 2-1 defeat of Granada, 'Los Che' owner Peter Lim, who also co-owns Salford City with Neville, has decided to hand the Old Trafford legend a two-year contract.
AS is reporting that Neville is yet to accept the deal and could yet turn it down as preparing for pre-season would likely mean he'd have to give up his place on England's coaching staff at Euro 2016.
It is believed that the dressing room believes in Neville and the Valencia board are convinced he can become a "Valencia man through and through" should he agree to the new deal.
