Cristiano Ronaldo And Lionel Messi Goal Scoring Stats The Last Time They Played In Different Leagues
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are playing in different leagues for the first time since the 2008/09 season.
The pair forged a fierce rivalry following Ronaldo's transfer to Real Madrid from Manchester United in 2009.
Ronaldo and Messi bagged silverware for Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively, while claiming individual honours in the shape of the prestigious Ballon d'Or.
However, Ronaldo ended his association with the Spanish giants by sealing a stunning switch to Juventus.
He's failed to open his official account for Juventus, firing blank in their opening two Serie A games. Whereas Messi has bagged two goals in two La Liga games this season.
But how did they compare the last time they played in different leagues?
Well, Messi weighed in with an impressive 38 goals from 51 games in all competitions including 23 in the league as well as nine in the Champions League.
Barcelona won the treble that campaign as Messi raised the La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League trophies.
The Catalan outfit beat United in the Champions League final with the Argentine wizard getting on the score-sheet.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, managed 26 goals from 53 games in all competitions including 18 in the league, and just four goals during United's European venture.
His heroics, though, did lead United to a domestic double in the Premier League and League Cup.
How will this term pan out?
Will Messi outscore Ronaldo just like the 08/09 season? Or will the Portuguese superstar chip in with more goals?
